I talked a few days ago about things you need to make sure you do on LinkedIn. Today, I want to talk about what you should never do on LinkedIn. Number one, never use the LinkedIn default for your headline. I’ve told you this before, you get 120 characters, so take advantage of this great opportunity to promote yourself. Number two, don’t make your profile invisible. What I mean by this is, don’t force LinkedIn users to connect with you before before they can see your profile. Number three, don’t just only request recommendations. The old saying, givers get. You need to give recommendations as well as request them. If you do, do Doing so will boost your profile. Number four, don’t repost Instagram, Facebook, or Pinterest photos on LinkedIn. Yes, it’s all social media, but LinkedIn is social media networking working for business purposes. Keep all that other information off of LinkedIn. Number 5, don’t complain about your boss or your colleagues on LinkedIn. You don’t want to do that on Facebook either because it will be checked, it will be found out. Just don’t do it on LinkedIn. It’s not the place. Number 6, check your messages on LinkedIn regularly.
Number 7 is actually something you should do. And if I haven’t told you before, I’m telling you now, download the LinkedIn app on your smartphone. It’s a great way to stay connected, especially when you’re searching for a new role. That’s all for today. Thanks for listening to my executive recruiter, Insider Secrets to Leaping Past your competition into your next great job. I’m Mike Sudermann. Have a great day.
